Suspect shot, officers injured in crash in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Police said a suspected serial robber was shot and law enforcement officers were injured in a crash after an incident in Forsyth County.

According to Forsyth County Sheriff's officials, three members of a F.B.I. task force, two F.B.I. agents and one Cherokee County deputy, were injured and taken to a local hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown.

Kelvone Charleston, 36, is suspected in up to 32 robberies mostly occurring at CVS pharmacies.

The F.B.I. task force were involved in a long-term investigation trying to catch Charleston.

Members of the task force were following Charleston as he pulled into the parking lot of the CVS at Windemere Parkway and Old Atlanta Road.

The FBI told Channel 2 Action News they saw Charleston put on a ski mask and gloves in the parking lot, and that is how they knew what was about to happen.

"And when it looked like he was going to be robbing the CVS Pharmacy, well, they just couldn't let that happen," neighbor Shauna Alland said.

Investigators say that is when Charleston sped out onto the street where agents and one Cherokee County deputy tried to block him with an F.B.I. SUV.

"I heard, 'Put your hands up. Put your hands up,'" and then I heard the crunch of the cars, I suppose," Alland said.

"From my understanding it was a ramming to a blocking effort that rolled the SUV," F.B.I Special Agent Stephen Emmett said.

Police say Charleston was armed when he exited his vehicle, and task force members shot him multiple times.

"It's insane. It was surreal to hear. It felt like it was in my backyard," Alland said.

Charleston was transported to a local hospital.

Investigators said they believe Charleston was after money and not drugs, because of what he had allegedly done in all the other robberies.
