State investigates officer-involved shooting in Jackson

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. — State investigators have responded to an officer-involved shooting in Jackson, Ga.

Jackson police responded to a domestic call in the 200 block of James Moore Drive around 3:20 p.m.

Police say officers encountered a man armed with a rifle outside the home.

Jackson Police Chief James Morgan says the man pointed his rifle at officers.

According to police, the man refused to obey officer commands to drop the rifle.

A Jackson police officer fired one shot at the man and injured him, police say.

Police won't say where the man was hit or what condition he is in.

The officer involved in this incident will be on administrative leave as the investigation unfolds, which is customary.
