Firefighters' cars targeted in break-ins

EAST POINT, Ga. — Local firefighters are cleaning up after someone broke into several cars at Fire Station 4 in East Point.

Plastic bags now cover the windows of the cars and SUV parked on Ben Hill Road.

The crooks also hit an SUV parked at a home across from the station.

The owner told Channel 2's Audrey Washington she doesn't know why this area was targeted.

Erica Sutton said she made the discovery early Tuesday morning. She just bought a black Jeep Liberty and said the thieves broke out the right rear window and stole some cash and paperwork.

Sutton said when she called East Point police, they came out to do a report. That’s when a firefighter from station 4 walked over and told police that cars at the station had been broken into, as well.

“It’s just appalling to me that they didn’t even know their cars were broken into until I called the police,” Sutton said.
