42 displaced in College Park apartment fire

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Ten families have been displaced in an apartment fire in College Park.

A fire tore through the Harrington Park Apartments on Camp Creek Parkway Wednesday afternoon.

The fire destroyed four homes and resulted in a power outage.

“It was huge and stuff started exploding,” Rockquez Bandy said.

Residents jumped into action to make sure everyone got out safely.

“The other two guys kicked in the door and a bunch of smoke just came out of nowhere,” Teisha Walters said.

Firefighters from three different counties arrived to put out the fire, which started in the kitchen of a first-floor unit and spread to other units.

Fire investigators said no one was in the apartment when they arrived.

According to the Red Cross, a total of 42 people – 25 kids and 17 adults – have been left without a home.

“You don’t have any family to go to. Now I have to take off work,” Walters said.

Fire investigators are working to figure out the cause of the fire.

Red Cross officials said displaced residents will be staying in nearby hotels for now.
