Smoking ban for Atlanta parks up for vote

ATLANTA — The city of Atlanta may be moving ahead with a comprehensive smoking ban for public parks.

The Community Development and Human Resources committee is expected to vote on the ordinance at a meeting on Tuesday, but the matter could be tabled.

"It shall be unlawful for any person to smoke in outdoor parks and recreational facilities located within the city of Atlanta, including, but not limited to, the parks, athletic fields, aquatic areas, golf courses, tennis courses, hiking/walking/biking trails, playgrounds, off-leash areas, and spectator and concession areas," the ordinance says.

If approved by the committee, the ordinance will then go before the city council for a vote. According to the ordinance, if approved, it will take effect immediately and signs will be posted in affected areas.
