GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Snellville police are investigating a burglary at a jewelry store.
The incident happened Tuesday at Barron's Fine Jewelry on Scenic Highway around 4:40 a.m. Police said thieves took off with stolen items from eight smashed glass cases.
The owner declined an on-camera interview, but said surveillance video shows three thieves using a manhole cover to break through glass doors. The trio, whose faces were covered, were in the store for only 50 seconds.
It wasn't the first time the store made headlines. A February 2011 robbery at the store led to the discovery of a major problem at Smith State Prison. Authorities said an inmate planned the robbery from inside his prison cell using smuggled cellphones.
