COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County dispatch confirmed a shooting at a gas station near Kennesaw State University Monday afternoon.
The shooting was reported at the CITGO gas station on Frey Road and George Busbee Parkway.
Channel 2 Action News learned the manager of the store was shot multiple times during an attempted robbery.
Police said the manager was leaving the store around 1:30 p.m. Monday with a bank bag for a deposit when he was approached by a gunman.
The manager fought off the man but was shot in the leg three times during the struggle. Police said the gunman did not get away with the cash.
Kennesaw State students were shocked the shooting happened in the middle of the afternoon.
“It’s scary, especially this type of robbery in the middle of the day. That’s just kind of odd,” student Ariel Mason said.
The shooting prompted an apartment complex to warn residents to stay inside. Ryan Gilbert lives at U Club on Frey and said the management sent him a text message, warning him not to go outside until the scene was clear.
“I got a message on my phone to stay indoors and keep the doors locked. I could hear sirens going on," Gilbert said.
According to police, the gunman has not been caught. They said the man headed in the direction of the Poplar Place apartment complex.
Police describe the gunman as a larger black male dressed in all black, wearing a black sleeveless T-shirt.
