• Authorities say swimmer at Hickory Log Creek confirmed dead


    CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - A 17-year-old was reported missing while swimming at the Hickory Log Creek Reservoir in Canton, but authorities have confirmed the victim drowned.

    Canton police said they were dispatched to the reservoir at about 1:45 p.m. in response to a swimmer in distress. The caller told authorities his friend began struggling in the water while they were swimming. The caller said he had attempted to help the victim before swimming to shore to call for help.

    Officers were unable to find the victim when they arrived at the scene.

    The Cherokee County Fire Department and Canton Marine Patrol conducted a boat search. A crew with the Department of Natural Resources also assisted in the search.

    The swimmer's name has not been released.
