Sandy Springs doctor sentenced to 25 years

A Sandy Springs doctor pleaded guilty to child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, ID theft and forgery.
As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped charges against Kelly Thrasher for another sexual assault battery case and for operating without a license.

A judge sentenced Thrasher to 25 years in prison.
Thrasher apologized for his actions, but the victim’s family said that an apology is not enough.
On Monday, Sandy Springs detective Sandy Rose read a statement from the family of the 7-year-old victim who Thrasher molested two years ago.
“What Kelly did to my daughter will haunt her for the rest of her life,” said the statement. “She will always be afraid of doctors. He actually told her, ‘You can trust me, I’m a doctor,’ while molesting her.”
Prosecutors say the victim was Thrasher’s daughter’s best friend and was at a sleepover when Thrasher snuck into her room and assaulted her.
“Because of Kelly, my daughter learned about bad guys. Even worse, she learned that people who you loved and trust will betray you and hurt you like no other,” said the statement.
Thrasher addressed the court before sentencing.
“Over the past two years, I’ve made multiple mistakes, and I’ve exhibited multiple episodes of bad judgment,” said Thrasher. “It was not my intent to hurt anyone, and for those who have been hurt, I am truly, truly sorry.”
Judge T. Jackson Bedford didn’t buy that apology.
“You not only violated the trust of this child. You violated the trust of this family who had a great deal of love for you and your family,” said Jackson.

In May, U.S. marshals arrested Thrasher at a Miami, Florida, hotel.
As a part of the plea deal, Thrasher also pleaded guilty to forgery and identity theft. Prosecutors say he forged a passport while out on a bond and attempted to flee the country.
Police say Thrasher could also face charges for child porn they found on his laptop.
