The police department said it used Flock Safety license plate readers to track down the vehicle, finding it at a home on Harvel Street in Conyers.
Warrants were secured for Mathis and he was found and arrested without incident at a Conyers motel on Tuesday morning.
“The timely access to vehicle information significantly enhanced the investigative response and contributed to the identification of a suspect and an arrest within 12 hours of the initial call,” Police Chief R. Scott Freeman said in a statement.
Police said GSP remains the lead agency on the case but Conyers officers will assist as needed.
