Moe's in Conyers fails health inspection

CONYERS, Ga. — UPDATE: The restaurant has been re-inspected and passed with a score of 75.

A Metro Atlanta Moe’s Southwest Grill failed a health inspection in part because of food temperature violations. The Moe’s on Flat Shoals Road in Conyers got a score of 57 on May 4.

A customer who had just bought takeout food as Channel 2's Carol Sbarge got to the restaurant to report on the inspection told Sbarge she was very disappointed with the score. Annette Austin says that is not the kind of thing you want to hear after you spent 30-something dollars as she had just done.

Sbarge says one violation involved an ineffective cooling method for some foods, including included salsa and guacamole.

Also, hot held food was not maintained at a hot enough temperature on the prep line.

The Moe’s also had a repeat violation of prepped foods not cooling properly to reach 41 F or less within four hours. When Sbarge went to the Rockdale County Moe’s she noticed right away the restaurant still had its old score of 82 posted. %

The manager said she was too busy to talk. She said she would call Sbarge but so far has not.

The Moe's corporate office sent Sbarge a statement saying: "The Moe’s in Conyers, GA, is taking this health inspection score seriously and is taking extensive measures to address and correct all violations.  The safety of our guests is a top priority."

One customer, Michelle Smith, says she eats at that Moe’s often and will return if they get a good score on the re-inspection. We’ll keep you posted on what that score is.
