Residents worried after string of break-ins at Buckhead apartment complex

ATLANTA — Residents in an Atlanta apartment complex came home to find their places ransacked and everything from electronics to family heirlooms missing.

Channel 2's Carl Willis pulled the police records and found that there were seven break-ins at the Camden at Phipps apartments in just one week.

Corey Boyer is one of seven residents, mostly on Alexander Circle, who had their doors pried open in the morning hours or in the middle of the day.

"It's extremely out of the ordinary," he said. "It was the biggest it's ever been. It's typically been one or two units..."

This time, it was almost a whole hallway and a few units picked off at one other building.

"This was basically what is easy to take and can be sold pretty quickly," said Bryan Starke. He had his laptop stolen along with his Social Security card and birth certificate. He says burglars even stole a pillowcase to hold the loot.

Atlanta police noted in reports that they spoke with a resident who witnessed a vehicle tailgate him through the security gate. The vehicle had at least two people inside.

Police are working that lead and reported that there are cameras at the entrance of the complex.

"The apartment management companies should be more aware that these types of things are happening and they're increasing," said Boyer.

"I would hope that Atlanta police would increase the patrolmen around the area," he said.
