Police: Woman shot in car while stopped at apartment security gate

ATLANTA — A woman was shot as she was driving into a gated apartment complex in Fulton County.

That 27-year-old victim was able to drive herself to help.

Channel 2's Ashley Swann was told the woman suffered serious injuries from the gunshot wound. She spoke with police who say their detectives have been working to try to find the two men who put her in the hospital.

Detectives said the woman was waiting at this security gate at the Walton Lake Apartments on Camp Creek Parkway Saturday at 2 a.m. when she noticed two men approaching her car. She grew nervous and started to back up, that's when one of the men fired a shot.

The woman was able to drive herself to a gas station on Cascade Road for help. Nearly 24 hours later, residents of the apartments were shocked and upset they hadn't yet heard about the crime.

"No one's said anything. That's something that we need to know," said resident Pauline Johnson.

Johnson said she's particularly upset to hear about something so violent happening at a complex with a heightened sense of security.

"We pay big money to stay here, it's not cheap," Johnson said.

Residents said they're praying for the victim as she recovers from critical injuries and hope police catch the men responsible soon.

"I hope they get this resolved and some kind of community involvement or more policing or something," Johnson said.

Police ask anyone with information on this shooting to give them a call.
