• Police: Security guard shoots man at SW Atlanta complex

ATLANTA - A security guard shot a man at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex early Wednesday, Atlanta police said.

It happened sometime before 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot at the Pavilion Place apartments. Atlanta police said the guard was on patrol when he tried to break up an argument between a man and a woman. Then, the man pulled out a gun, police said.

“The suspect turned around and pointed a weapon at the security guard, and after the security guard gave a command, the suspect would not drop the weapon,” Atlanta police Capt. Tim Peek said. “He discharged his weapon, striking the suspect once in the leg.”

The man took off after the shooting, Peek said.

“Called in the tracking dogs, who were ultimately able to find the suspect laying down in the high brush,” he said.

The man was taken into custody and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. Police said charges are pending against him.

Officers are also holding the guard’s gun and checking to see if he is licensed to carry it.
