Missing 11-year-old Clayton County boy found sleeping at Home Depot

HAMPTON, Ga. — An 11-year-old boy has been found safe after he was reported missing for a day in Clayton County.

Monixx Mathieu was found sleeping in a shed outside a Home Depot on Tara Boulevard early Wednesday morning.

Police say Mathieu went home on the bus Tuesday after school. After he was dropped off, the bus driver saw him wandering along the road. She asked why he was alone and he told her no one was at his house. The bus driver took Mathieu back to school, where a teacher was going to call his parents.

"As a safety measure, the bus driver brought him back to school, where he was supposed to make contact with his parents by phone. The young man went inside the school, disappeared inside the school and never made contact with parents," said Chief Clarence Cox with Clayton County Schools police.

Mathieu disappeared from the school around 5 p.m.

The boy was reunited with his mother soon after police picked him up.
