Police release surveillance video in the Schenck School burglary

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Sandy Springs police are renewing their efforts to find two burglars who broke into a school for kids with learning disabilities.

Police released surveillance video of two men breaking into the Schenick  School just after midnight on August 4.

The thieves left with more than a dozen computers and iPads.

The school's mission is to help kids with dyslexia, and teachers use the technology as part of their daily classwork.

"Technology can really help our students to show what they've learned in different ways that wasn't possible before these tools existed," said Head of School Ferrell Singleton.

Singleton says the impact of the burglary is a real disruption to the operation of the school.

"The unfortunate side is, of course, you feel violated. The damage was roughly $30,000, we think," said Singleton.

Fortunately, Singleton said the school was able to replace the computers before classes started this week.

Police are looking into whether this case is connected to the burglary at Cumberland Academy from a few weeks back.

There was a break-in at Pace Academy in Buckhead the same night, but so far, police don't think they're connected.

This was the second burglary at the Schenick School since November. Singleton said they are taking steps to better secure electronics.

"It's not OK to steal from students, especially students with learning difficulties that really need this technology to help them be successful," said Singleton.

If anyone has information on the identities of the individuals shown in the video, they are asked to contact Detective Jeff Brown at 770-551-3322 or Crime Stoppers atwww.crimestoppersatlanta.org.
