Man arrested for murder after 2 women found dead in 2 counties

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police have arrested a man they say killed a woman at an apartment complex in Gwinnett County and is a suspect in the death of another woman in Newton County.

Authorities said the first murder happened at a complex on Herrington Woods Court in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Police describe the murder as a “domestic-related homicide.”

Channel 2′s Tony Thomas was in Lawrenceville, where neighbors told investigators they heard an argument. When officers arrived around 6 a.m., they found a woman dead in the doorway.

“They located a woman who was deceased. No one else was injured during the incident and investigators are currently following up some more details,” said Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Kathleen Adams.

Later, a woman was reported dead in the garage of a home in Newton County.

Police have identified Arief McKenzie, 50, as the suspect in both cases. McKenzie was captured and arrested on aggravated assault and felony murder charges.

Police identified the victim in Gwinnett County as Jillian Myles-Walters, 36, and said that she and McKenzie were in a relationship.

The second victim’s identity has not been released.
