Police: Grenade found in kitchen turned out to be fake

ATLANTA — Police said their investigation into what they believed was a potentially explosive device found in a northwest Atlanta home turned out to be a "replica or a toy."

Authorities told Channel 2 Action News they left a Ridge Avenue home, where a man discovered a hand grenade in one of the kitchen cabinets.

Fred Davies, who works for a property management company, said he was securing the home on Saturday morning when he came across the grenade. A bomb squad secured the device and took it from the home.

Several homes in the area were evacuated while the bomb squad investigated.  Just after noon, police determined the device was fake. Police said residents will soon be able to return to their homes.
