ALPHARETTA, Ga — A man has been charged after police say he stabbed his friend's 2-year-old pit bull terrier mix dozens of times.
A Fulton County grand jury indicted 27-year-old Philemon Delouise on aggravated cruelty to animal charges.
Police say Delouise, was taking care of the dog for a friend, held the dog down and began repeatedly stabbing her nearly two dozen times.
The dog, named Roxy, was later taken outside and left to die, the indictment says.
Nearly nine hours after the attack, Roxy's owner was able to retrieve the dog and take her to a veterinarian who referred her to an emergency clinic.
Police were sent to both the clinic and the crime scene where Delouise was arrested.
Roxy survived the attack and continues to receive medical care.
A trial date for Delouise is pending.
