Pizza delivery man kidnapped, shot

ATHENS, Ga. — A pizza delivery man was kidnapped and shot while delivering pizza in Athens.

Robert Collins, a delivery person for Papa John’s, attempted a delivery at a Branch Street residence Thursday evening.

He was unable to locate the house number given.

According to police, Collins was approached by two young men.

Police said at some point Collins was placed in the trunk of his car, shot in the arm and transported to Trail Creek Street.

Officers responded, and Collins was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center.

The kidnappers were described as black men, in their late 20s, with short hair and wearing dark clothing.

Papa Johns released the following statement about the crime: "Team member safety is of the utmost importance to Papa John's. We are cooperating with local authorities in their efforts to apprehend those responsible for this attack. Our thoughts are with the driver and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Anyone with information on the incident should contact Athens police.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
