Paulding man charged with arson murder of his own mother, family dog

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — Paulding County authorities have arrested a man they say murdered his own mother by setting fire to her home last month.

The fire broke out at a mobile home on Due West Road in Dallas on April 22.

People calling 911 said that an elderly woman may have been trapped inside with a family pet.

When firefighters extinguished the flames, they found the bodies of a woman and a dog.

Investigators identified the woman as 72-year-old Deborah Jones.

Investigators said the victim’s son, 51-year-old Bryan Dwayne Jones gave “nonsensical statements” and acted strangely while he was being interviewed by police.

Jones was initially arrested on April 26 in Cedartown on charges of concealing the death of another and arson. He’s since been charged with murder and cruelty to animals.
