Parents speak out on fights at Collins Hill HS

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The mother of a student involved in a fight inside a local high school insists her daughter has been bullied for years and should not be kicked out of school.

Tensions are still high at Collins Hill High School after fights inside the school were caught on camera.

One mother, who does not want to be identified, says she does not like the idea that her daughter could be kicked out of school for what she calls self-defense. Her daughter was involved in a fight during which the school's principal was knocked to the ground.

"The girl dropped her book bag in front of (my daughter), my daughter says she felt spit and hit her. When does bullying stop? This has been going on too long," the mother said.

School administrators say three fights broke out at the school on Friday., plus threats of more. Extra security has been brought in and dismissal procedures changed to keep large crowds from gathering after school.

One woman's daughter wasn't in any of the fights, but she is now receiving threatening texts saying she is next.

Ms. Lanier says she has kept her daughter out of school since Monday and does not know if she will let her go back.

"They don't know specifically who these young girls are and my daughter could be walking down the hallway and the way they are fighting these days, I'm just not going to let that happen," Lanier said.
