CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Cherokee County High School students could face criminal charges after sheriff deputies say pranks went too far.
The junior-senior wars at CreekView High School may have gone beyond just pranks to the criminal level.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office got involved when a woman found a dead animal on her porch.
Monika Cox-Young told Channel 2's Liz Artz her yard was destroyed because of kids participating in the pranks. She has a son who is a junior at CreekView.
"It''s one thing to toilet paper someone's yard, but to leave trash, mutilate an animal and defecate on your porch, that's extreme to me," Cox-Young said.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office agrees.
Not only are investigators ready to press charges, but they have a strong warning for parents who they say may be in denial their children are involved.
"If your kid is out after two in the morning you might assume he or she is involved in this, and you need to stop them," said Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff deputies say they have about 40 incidents so far. Not only are they investigating, deputies say they have several pretty good leads and some could even result in felony charges.
"They're doing stuff that could affect their future, believe it or not. It's not as simple as throwing a couple of rolls of toilet paper in a tree, it's something that could affect their future," Baker said.
"Maybe they need to have community service, perhaps at animal shelters, to clean out dog cages since they like to leave feces on your porch," one parent told Artz.
Baker said deputies broke up three separate groups that were prepared to go out Wednesday night, they caught them before they were able to do any more damage.
Baker also said a well-known senior called an end to the war Thursday at school with the juniors.
If you have any information about who was involved in the pranks you're asked to call the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Callers can remain anonymous.
