Parents: Girl Scout mom stole thousands from troop

ATLANTA — Parents of a local Girl Scout troop said another mom stole thousands of dollars worth of Girl Scout cookie money and now they've gone to police.

Channel 2's Liz Artz talked to parents in the troop who said the scouts sold 1,400 boxes of cookies.

They earned $4,900 and $700 of that was supposed to go back to the girls, now they say they have nothing.

"I sold them to people at school and around my neighborhood. I sold them every single day," Brownie Kamille Sims told Artz.

Sims, 7, has been a Brownie for all of four months. She's earned her World Thinking Day badge, and thought her cookie badge would be next on her vest. She sold 120 boxes, and earned a lot of money for her troop.

Brian Scott and several other parents said the troop's cookie account manager collected all the money in cash and kept it for herself.

"It's a terrible example. It goes against everything the girl scouts are supposed to be about," Scott told Artz.

Artz stopped by the manager's house Wednesday, but there was no answer and her calls were not returned.

The troop leader filed a police report and reported it to the Girl Scouts of Atlanta, but said the money was for the girl's badge, a banquet and trip to Six Flags. All are now in jeopardy.

"Now the burden will be on us, the parents to make sure that happens," Scott said.

Sims' mom said even worse, the troop might be dissolved if their portion of the money isn't turned in.

Scott said the Girl Scouts required a background check for the cookie account manager. He said she seemed organized and trustworthy.

"Give the money back to whoever needs money, because there are some bad consequences to come," Sims said.

The parents said the girl scouts have promised to prosecute. Artz tried to get a hold of the Girl Scouts, but her calls were not returned.
