Parent Shot, Killed In Front Of Dunwoody Preschool

DUNWOODY, Ga.,None — Dunwoody police said a father was shot an killed in the parking lot of Dunwoody Prep school.

The shooting happened in front of the private preschool and nursery located on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road just after 9 a.m. Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Russell Sneiderman, 36. Sneiderman had just dropped off his son at the school.

One mother told Channel 2 Action News reporter Kerry Kavanaugh she was shocked. "The last thing you think about is dropping off your child at school and something like this happening," said the mother, Natalia Kelly.

Kelly said she dropped her 2-year-old son off at about 9 a.m. before heading across the street to the bank.

"As I was sitting there I heard four shots, and I thought, 'That could really have been four gunshots,'" said Kelly.

Russell Sneiderman, 36, was shot and killed in front of Dunwoody Prep on Thursday.

Police said a man pulled up in a silver Dodge minivan and shot multiple times at Sneiderman in a car parked right in front of the school. School officials confirmed the victim was a parent of one of their students.

Paramedics rushed Sneiderman to Atlanta Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said no children or staff members were hurt.

"Anytime someone fires a weapon, even in the general vicinity, absolutely our main concern was for the safety of the children," said Sgt. Mike Carlson of the Dunwoody Police Department.

School officials sent e-mails and called parents to inform them of the situation.

"Every entrance to the facility has a locked corridor with video surveillance," said Bruce Newman of Dunwoody Prep.

Daycare officials said they turned all of their surveillance video over to police.

Police said investigators do not know if the two men knew each other.

Officials said the shooter is a white man with a beard, in his 30s, driving a silver Dodge minivan with no tag. Police said the gunman was last seen traveling westbound on Mt. Vernon Road.
