More than 6,000 people have now died of coronavirus in Georgia

ATLANTA — Georgia passed 6,000 coronavirus-related deaths on Labor Day weekend.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, a total of 6,037 people have died in Georgia since the pandemic began in March. 283,199 people have become infected.

Over 1,000 people have died from the virus across the state in just two weeks. On August 22, Channel 2 Action News reported that over 5,000 people had died from the virus.

The youngest person in the state to die from the virus was a 1-year-old boy in Cobb County.

Fulton County has reported the most deaths, with 545 people dying from complications related to COVID-19.
