Woman says NFL player’s pit bulls nearly killed her dog

A woman is recovering after police say two pit bulls attacked her and her dog.

She and her family told Channel 2′s Mike Petchenik that they are shaken up after the vicious attack.

Jennifer Savage said she was on her front lawn with her own dog when the pit bulls pounced.

“It was absolutely insane considering it was in my front yard,” Savage said.

A neighbor’s security camera was recording Thursday as two pit bulls charged at Savage and her dog Berkley outside their Roswell home.

“I look up, not even paying attention, and I see two pit bulls charging at me, showing their teeth and growling at me,” Savage said. “We tumbled down a hill with the pit bulls and all of a sudden I remember being on top of Berkley, shielding his body from them while they were taking huge chunks out of him.”

Berkley had surgery Thursday for his injuries.

“They shaved his entire body and there’s punctures and tubes all in him,” Savage said.

Savage suffered bites to her arms and legs and needed stitches.

“It could have been a lot worse. They could have killed my daughter,” Jennifer’s mother, Kathy Savage, said.

She told Petchenik the dogs were roaming the neighborhood.

A Roswell police report said the dogs belong to former Georgia Tech and NFL standout Demaryius Thomas.

“We found out who they belong to. We went to their house and told them their dogs were running our neighborhood and we felt danger,” Kathy Savage said.

“Do you think someone ought to face some charges here?” Petchenik asked Jennifer Savage.

“Yes, we definitely do,” she said.

Roswell police have referred the case to animal control for possible charges. A county spokesman said the case is still under investigation.

Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein also reached out to Thomas' agent to get a comment from him, but so far we haven’t heard anything.
