NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Heads up if you live or commute near Interstate 285 in Sandy Springs: you could experience lane closures and loud booms on the interstate this week.
The Georgia Department of Transportation said its construction partners will have controlled rock blasts that will require them to pace traffic. It’s part of the Transform 285/400 project.
Starting on Wednesday, the blasting will happen around I-285 eastbound from Perimeter Center Parkway to Ashford Dunwoody Road from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

GDOT said the blasting will happen for about three weeks. The department wants drivers to be aware of the possible delays and lane closures in the area.
Traffic pacing will occur at the following locations:
- I-285 eastbound at Roswell Road
- I-285 westbound at Chamblee Dunwoody Road
- SR 400 northbound at I-285 EB ramp
- SR 400 southbound at I-285 EB ramp
Traffic will be stopped at Perimeter Center Parkway from Lake Hearn Drive to Hammond Drive.
