ATLANTA — Along with groceries and paper products, a local nonprofit gave something extra today to needy families.
Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne witnessed some very grateful reactions.
It’s about laptop computers, community and caring for others in the coronavirus crisis.

“Today, we are partnering with Long Middle School. A school in our community and we are giving families in need a laptop computer as well as food and basic necessities,” Caring For Others’ founder and CEO Eslene Shockley said.
Shockley said a donor gave 20 laptops to her organization but she decided needy kids from Crawford Long Middle School and their families needed the laptops more than she did as they try to get by during the coronavirus crisis.
“To whom much is given mark much is required, and we are all about helping those without the basic necessities to live with dignity,” Shockley said.

So, working with Principal Lisa Hill and her staff, Caring For Others arranged for families to pick up not just the laptops, but groceries and household supplies, drive-thru style.
“This just speaks volumes that we’re not just educating but were ministering to families,” Lisa Hill said.

Hill said the Atlanta Public Schools system has loaned laptops to each student, but the laptops picked up at caring for others will support entire families as long as they last.
“I see the community and the world coming together for our families to meet them where they are, and I’m overjoyed,” Hill said.
She said the big picture for this event was to provide resources to families in need: technology for the long-term and food and other supplies for the short term and to show love.
