NFL star's childhood home goes up in flames

FAIRBURN, Ga. — The childhood home of NFL star Eric Berry went up in flames Thursday night in Fairburn.

Fire crews were called to the home along Shannon Chase Way just after 6:30 p.m.

Homeowner James Berry told Channel 2 Action News that his family got out safely, but the home appeared to be a total loss.

Berry said a neighbor kicked in the door to save the family dog.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

So far, there is no word on what caused the fire to start.

Eric Berry attended Creekside High School in Fairburn. He received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee in 2007.

In July of 2010 Eric Berry was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs.
