NFL Source: Mercedes-Benz gets naming rights to Falcons stadium

Falcons' new stadium is scheduled to open in downtown Atlanta for the 2017 season.

ATLANTA — A National Football League source confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that Mercedes-Benz has secured the naming rights to the new downtown Atlanta football stadium.

Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein has learned that a deal has been reached between the Falcons and the automaker.

Mercedes-Benz announced earlier this year that the company is moving its U.S. headquarters to Sandy Springs.

Details about the rights have not been released, but could come in a news conference as early as Monday.

The nearly $1.5 billion retractable roof stadium is expected to open in 2017.
