NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A major accident in Newton County shut down all lanes of Interstate 20 westbound Sunday afternoon.
Nine cars were involved in the accident just before the Exit 84/Salem Road, according to Georgia Department of Transportation.
Georgia State Patrol says a van in the left lane got a flat tire and stopped. The driver then tried to cross from the left lane to the emergency lane, causing a chain reaction crash. At least one vehicle overturned and several others were involved in rear-end and sideswipe collisions.
Six people suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
All lanes reopened just after 5 p.m. but heavy traffic delays remained.
