ATLANTA — Neighbors in Southwest Atlanta reached out to Channel 2 Action News with worries about a seemingly sick raccoon wandering the neighborhood during the day.
The animal was in Perkerson Park and had trouble walking and seemed lethargic.
"Very dangerous for the community because there are a lot of little kids on the playground,” Asia Collier told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri.
Her mother Antonia Thomas also had concerns.

"I bring my dogs out here just to roam around and I bring my grandbaby out here," Thomas said. "So no, it’s not safe at all."
Neighbor Robby Caban said she called Animal Control, 911 and the Department of Natural Resources trying to get someone to pick up the animal.
"They said that it could be symptomatic of a rabid raccoon," Caban told Viteri.

A spokesperson for the DNR told Viteri the raccoon has not reportedly made contact with any people or pets and based on limited resources they have been unable to get it.
"I think it's horribly irresponsible," Caban said. "Because honestly his tail is bitten and his snout is bitten so he’s actually made contact."
In the meantime, DNR officials advise neighbors not to approach the animal.
