COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The mother of U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Skip Wells is reacting to news that the shooting that killed her son was inspired by terrorism.
Wells, a Georgia native, was killed while working at a Chattanooga military recruitment center and Navy Reserve facility in July.
The FBI says it has found the motive for the shooting that left five servicemen dead, including Wells.
"I didn't need the FBI to tell me. I know what it was," Skip Wells' mother, Cathy Wells, said.
Navy officials are also awarding the Purple Heart to the servicemen killed at the center.
Wells had mixed emotions about the announcement.
"Kind of relieved, ya know, that the whole incident is being justified, but at the same time it's still somber and I shouldn't have to be worried about it at all," Wells said.
Wells says she'll miss her son's smile the most.
"He was so full of life all the time," Wells said.
Wells says her son was only 21 years old and she doesn't want his death to be in vain.
