MARIETTA, Ga.,None — Marietta Police are investigating rape allegations made by a 14-year old girl.
The teen girl told police she was making her way home from school and was waiting for a city bus along Sandtown Road on Tuesday when the attack happened.
Police told Channel 2's Richard Elliot a man pulled up in a car and started talking with the unidentified girl. According to detectives, the girl willingly climbed into the car, but then the man drove her to another location within the city and raped her.
"I think what's important for everybody to understand in a case like this is that this young lady is still considered a minor and under Georgia law, she's not able to make these kinds of consensual decisions," said Marietta police officer David Baldwin.
The victim's mother spoke briefly with Elliot. She said the man roughed up her daughter then sexually assaulted her.
The suspect in the case could face rape or statutory rape charges.
