Man struck by train found dead on tracks

ATLANTA — Atlanta homicide detectives are looking into the circumstances of a man who was hit while laying on train tracks and found dead.

A sign by the tracks near Marietta Boulevard in northwest Atlanta reads "No Trespassing," but a CSX train engineer said he spotted a man lying on the tracks.

"The engineer of the train advised us that he blew the horn when he noticed the person laying there and the person didn't move, but, unfortunately, trains can't stop on a dime," Captain Adam Lee of the Atlanta Police Department said.

Police said they are not sure if the 55-year-old man was dead before the train hit him.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene, which is near the Fulton County Jail, to determine if there was foul play.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.

Police said the man was carrying a cellphone and identification, but they have not released his name.
