A Gwinnett County man is in critical condition as firefighters investigate how flames ripped through his home.
Firefighters said neighbors called 911 around 6:45 p.m. to report the house fire. When fire crews arrived, they found the house on Stoneshyre Court fully engulfed in flames.
Crews had to battle the fire from outside the home due to the intense fire.

"There were police officers and firefighters using everything from portable extinguishers to water cans in those yards just to keep those embers from growing in intensity," said Cpt. Tommy Rutledge with the Gwinnett County Fire Department.
A man inside the home was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in critical condition.

Neighbors watched as fire crews demolished what was left of the home. Some said they saw the rescue.
“The guy was being pulled from the gully down there covered in blood,” said neighbor Tyler Brown.
Firefighters had to work to protect neighboring houses due to the radiant heat and floating hot embers. Some of the embers started small grass fires but firefighters were able to extinguish them quickly.

“There were several yards that were ignited nearby, which endangered houses, also radiant heat was certainly something firefighters were having to keep an eye on to make sure the houses directly to the left and right also did not become involved,” Rutledge.
The family’s dog was also injured in the fire, it was taken to a local veterinarian for burn injuries.
The exact cause of the fire is currently being investigated. Fire Investigators are talking with witnesses and will talk to the victim once his condition improves.
