Father, 2 kids found dead inside Carroll Co. home

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — For the first time we are hearing from the brother of two children found murdered inside their Carroll County home.

Thursday afternoon, Carroll County Sheriff's deputies found Daniel Garcia, 13, and his sister 11-year-old Kayla shot to death. Their father, 41-year-Luis Garcia was also dead. Friday, the sheriff officially ruled it a murder-suicide.

"We believe he turned the gun on them and then turned the gun on himself,” Sheriff Terry Langley told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.

Police said Garcia and the children's mother were estranged and that she left for New York in January. Sheriff Langley said the couple had heated conversations earlier in the week. Investigators believe whatever transpired during those calls lead up to the shooting.

Carrying the balloons in Temple's blue and white colors, students at Temple Middle School, where Daniel attended, somberly took to the field to honor their friends lost to violence.

The distraught mother came to the football field Friday as did her oldest son Matthew, who fought back tears as he spoke about his little brother.

"He was unique, different, brave, good,” said Matthew Garcia.

When the students let their balloons soar, tears fell for the brother and sister who touched the lives of many in this small community.

After, the balloons were released students spontaneously grabbed each other’s hands and circled around two very special numbers on the field Kayla’s soccer jersey “6’’ and Daniel’s football number “52.”

Sheriff Langley said the coroner performed autopsies on both children Friday.
