HENRY COUNTY, GA. — A local sculptor has died after being hit by a pickup truck while sitting on his motorcycle at a red light, according to the Henry County coroner.
According to Georgia State Patrol investigators, Andy Davis, 53, was on his motorcycle at a signal light on Jodeco Road close to the Interstate 75 ramp just after 12 a.m. Saturday when he was rear-ended by pickup truck driver Corey Sease, 20.
Police said Davis was severely injured when he was thrown off the bike.
Sease was charged with DUI, following too closely and possession of marijuana less than one ounce, according to troopers. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation, troopers said.
Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes talked to Davis’ loved ones Saturday, who said Davis is in a coma with no brain activity. They said he was being kept on life support because he is an organ donor. He was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital Sunday night.
Channel 2's Wendy Corona interviewed Davis last week as he worked to create an 8-foot-tall statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Davis was chosen to make the statue that would be at the Georgia State Capitol.
