FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The attorney for a high school football player accused of shoving his coach during a football game said Wednesday the teen is sorry for what happened and taking steps to improve his life.
Fulton County School police charged Keewan Williams, 18, with simple battery in October after they said he shoved the Northview High School head football coach on to the field during a game.
“He’s very sorry about what happened, he’s very contrite and humble,” attorney J. Thomas Salata told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik outside of the North Fulton Magistrate Court. “We’re gonna learn a lot from this and get some counseling and go from there.”
Salata said Williams was removed from the school for the rest of the semester but has re-enrolled to finish his senior year starting in January.
A judge reset Williams’ hearing until January, at which time, Salata said his client is hopeful school police will dismiss the charges if agrees to undergo psychological counseling and do community service.
“This young man’s a leader and sometime even leaders make mistakes in the split second and I think he understands that,” said Salata. “When you make a mistake like this, what’s important is what you do afterwards to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
