DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Businesses are packing up as developers prepare to demolish North DeKalb Mall.
Developer EDENS plans to redevelop the site into “Lulah Hills,” a multi-million dollar mixed-use development.
Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins was at the mostly-empty mall on Tuesday, where business owners who have hung on now said they have to be out next month.

Stores like a beauty and jewelry store are in the process of packing up before the building is torn down this summer. The mall, which once had more than 85 stores, was opened in 1965.
Only a few businesses still remain on the property at all, but they soon will also be closing their doors.
This week, developers announced the new title for the live, work, play area. Lulah Hills is a tribute to the architect behind the development of the Druid Hills neighborhood.

“We came in 1990,” Malik Chrany, owner of S.M. Diamond Center, said. “The whole mall was packed.”
Developers hope they can restore the hustle and bustle vibe on the property with restaurants, retail stores, townhouses and even a walking trail.
“I think it’s going to be nice for the community,” Darlene Sims said.
