3 hunters cleared of felony charges in connection to undercover sting

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned a jury cleared three north Georgia hunters of federal felony charges after a Channel 2 investigation revealed major questions about how officers made their cases.

In April, we showed you how undercover wildlife officers killed some bears during Operation Something Bruin, but then charged local hunters in connection with those crimes.

On Monday night, a federal jury in Asheville, North Carolina found Jerry Parker, Walt Stancil, his son, Cale Stancil, not guilty of all felony charges.

Parker and Walt Stancil were convicted of two misdemeanors, which they never disputed.

They still plan to ask the judge to dismiss those misdemeanors due to the officers' actions.

At one point the judge remarked that even he was disturbed by the officers' conduct.
