COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Home Depot is now hiring hundreds of new employees to work behind the scenes in information technology.
The employees will be part of the company's new tech center south of Delk Road in Marietta.
Channel 2’s Jim Strickland talked with company executives about the growth.
"Today we have 1,000 associates in this facility and we have plans to expand it upwards of 500 more in the future in addition to those 1,000," said IT vice president Daniel Grider.
"We're putting the investment in to make sure everything is up and running so our customers have a good experience from beginning to end," added 19-year IT staffer Monica McGahee.
The campus is spread over 200,000 square feet in four leased office buildings. The abundance of local computer talent is one reason the store chain located the facility so close to its Vinings headquarters.
"If you think about the Atlanta area and how the talent pool for it is growing, it's become the Silicon Valley of the south," said Grider.
Amber Langmesser has been on the job for a week.
"I have wanted to get in with Home Depot for quite a long time and I definitely hope to stay here for quite a long time," she said.
