Hunter and Jeanty are the favorites to win the Heisman with Hunter splitting his time as a cornerback and wide receiver. If Hunter brings home the trophy, he will join Michigan’s Charles Woodson as the only two-way players to win.
Hunter won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He recorded 31 tackles, 11 pass breakups and four interceptions. In the wide receiver slot, he lead the Big 12 with 92 receptions and 14 receiving touchdowns. He ranks second in the conference with 1,152 yards.
Hunter’s 21 receiving plays of 20-plus yards meanwhile lead the nation.
If Hunter brings home the trophy, he will join Michigan’s Charles Woodson as the only two-way players to win.
The Heisman Trophy, named after former Georgia Tech head coach John Heisman, has been awarded annually since 1935 to the most outstanding college football player. A panel of 900 media members and former Heisman winners will cast their votes.
