GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A group of firefighters came to the rescue on Saturday evening after a trio of kayakers got stuck in the middle of the Yellow River in Gwinnett County.
Firefighters were called to the portion of the river near the 4500 block of Stone Mountain Highway SW.
The person who call 911 said one of their friend’s kayaks had flipped over, and they were sitting on a branch in the river.

Because of several rainy days, the water was higher than normal.
Crews saw one of the kayakers on a sandbar. Firefighters threw them a personal flotation device to put on and pulled them back to shore with a throw rope.

The other two were slightly further out. One was standing on a sandbar and the other was sitting on a branch nearby. One had on a personal flotation device and the other did not. The one without one was thrown one to put on.
Some firefighters placed themselves downstream from where the kayakers were in case they floated away again. However, both kayakers were given a throw rope and pulled to safety.
