GSP: Clayton Co. deputy injured in crash during pursuit

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Clayton County sheriff's deputy was injured in an on-the-job crash overnight.

The Georgia State Patrol said the deputy was at a checkpoint late Monday night when the driver of a Ford Mustang tried to flee.

The deputy pursued the Mustang in a marked patrol car. At some point a passenger grabbed the steering wheel of the Mustang, causing it to spin in the road, GSP said.

GSP said the deputy swerved to avoid the Mustang and crashed into a concrete sign on Grant Road.

The deputy was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. She is listed in good condition.

GSP said the driver of the Mustang is in custody and facing multiple charges.
