Grandmother said glitch in COVID-19 test results makes her think they may be inaccurate

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A local grandmother is questioning her COVID-19 tests results because it shows her getting tested days before she actually took the test.

Channel 2′s Tom Jones was in Cobb County, where Lisa Campbell said the lab told her a glitch in the system caused the problem, but she’s worried it’s widespread.

Jones reached out to the lab but is still waiting for a response. The lab told Campbell they believe the test results are accurate, but she said she has a hard time believing it.

“I don’t want to take any chances with this,” Campbell said. “I’m not settled that it’s mine.”

Campbell waited days to hold and kiss her new granddaughter after she the test. When the result came back negative, she made up for lost time.

"I held her and kissed her, and she gave me that cute smile," Campbell said.

Then she clicked a link on the test results and noticed something strange.

“They’re showing that the lab received my on August 10th,” Campbell said. “But I took the test on August 14th.”

Campbell's daughter took the test the same time she did at the Sullivan Road testing site near the airport. It showed her taking the test days before she actually took it as well.

“We don’t know if anything is accurate because this could be somebody else’s test,” Campbell said.

Campbell said she called Permiere Medical Laboratory Services in South Carolina. A supervisor told her a glitch in the system is causing the problem.

Campbell asked if other's testing dates were incorrect.

"And there was a little bit of silence, and she said, 'Yeah,'" Campbell said.

A worker at the lab said there was no one Jones could speak to and directed him to an email address.

Jones is still waiting for a response.

Campbell said the dates tests are reported to the state also appeared to be off. She knows many people will see the negative on the email and not investigate further.

“I suggest everybody look in deeper,” Campbell said. “Make sure those dates match.”
