ATLANTA — The Georgia Ports Authority announced Tuesday that two major ports in the state had seen 12 months of growth.
At the Port of Savannah, GPA said they’d seen 11.4% growth from July 1, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2024, or about 300,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEU).
Across the entirety of the port system, GPA says they handled 442,000 TEUs, a 19,850 TEU increase compared to December 2023.
“We’ve seen twelve consecutive months of year-over-year container volume growth and we’re on track for a strong fiscal year that ends June 30th, 2025,” Griff Lynch, President and CEO of Georgia Ports Authority, said in a statement.

GPA said the Appalachian Regional Port (ARP) also helped increase their performance, with a 13.5% increase year-to-date and a 20.6% increase over the previous period.
Lynch said projects are underway to expand operations in Georgia, including at the Blue Ridge Connector in Gainesville, Ga.
While 50% of the project there is complete, the overall inland port will open in 2026. There will also be a $40 million expanded U.S. Customs inspection facility opening in March 2025 to support faster service at the state’s Garden City Terminal.
“We continue to focus our infrastructure renovation efforts on getting all our facilities into top shape for customers and their long-term needs,” Kent Fountain, Chairman of the Georgia Ports board, said. “We’d like to thank our customers, Gateway Terminals, the ILA, our Trucking community and our business partners who make Savannah and Brunswick supply chains work so well.”
