ATLANTA — AAA is warning drivers about the cost of repairs if you hit a pothole.
Drivers across the U.S. whose vehicles sustained damage and needed repair after hitting a pothole increased nearly 60% compared to last year, according to AAA.

In March, Channel 2 Consumer Investigator Justin Gray found that the state only paid for 400 pothole-related repairs despite receiving more than 1,200 claims.
Channel 2′s Tom Regan spoke with drivers on Friday afternoon who say their claims were denied after hitting the same pothole on I-285 near Camp Creek Pkwy.
“Once I saw that and saw that it wasn’t just me, I became even more angry,” one driver said. “It was something that they had to be aware of. They just hadn’t done anything about it.”

The state told Regan that the Department of Transportation did not know about that pothole.
An open records request filed by Channel 2 Action News found that a third person reported it the days before.
