ATLANTA — The Georgia Aquarium has had a decade of accomplishments and challenges. Now, the key players behind the aquarium open up to Channel 2 in “The Georgia Aquarium, The Next Decade.” They talk candidly about its struggles and the new plans for its future in the Family 2 Family special hosted by Justin Farmer and Jovita Moore, anchors for Channel 2 Action News.
After recent deaths of several of the aquarium’s beluga whales, the program has drawn controversy. The scientists and caregivers working at The Georgia Aquarium take Channel 2 through the care and habitat of the belugas. They explain what led to the death of one of their beloved belugas in November.
Channel 2 gains a rare interview with the Georgia Aquarium’s creator and benefactor, Bernie Marcus. Marcus, a co-founder of Home Depot, addresses the critics and explains why the aquarium is so important to Georgia and the world. He reveals future plans and research projects for the aquarium.
“Channel 2, through our long running Family 2 Family project, is committed to bringing Georgians programs that support the community,” said Tim McVay, Vice President and General Manager of Channel 2 WSB-TV. “We invite local viewers to watch ‘The Georgia Aquarium, The Next Decade” to get more insight to what’s happening at one of Georgia’s biggest attractions.”
